Hmm well, I did that and for some reason its not working. I'm wondering if I need to do something like detect hardware or something like that.

The one usb mike I've seen has an on off button, if your's does make sure it's on.
Also to adjust the volume for it you may have to look for it under properties in the volume control.
Oh and some things like window's live require you to tell it to pick up the audio from that kind of mike.

I'm wondering if a USB headset's the answer for my laptop? I got a USB mic for my desktop and used that with MSN and Skype, but when I tried to install it on my new laptop, the laptop wouldn't accept it. I checked out which mic I could install on there, and the one which is most compatible with my laptop is a Realtech mic. I've looked on Amazon for the mic and there weren't any Realtech microphones on there and I need a new headset anyway so I wonder now, if I can get a Realtech headset instead. I have still to look on the PC World website to see if they have the right mic.

Hi all, well, for some reason, my mic isn't being detected I tried to go on for the people and they heard no audio, I checked my volume settings and there all fine. Another question is is the line in supposed to be muted or not?

USB mics and/or USB headsets should be all plug and play under windows xp. If your computer is connected to the net when you plug it in, xp should go online and download any drivers if need be. there shouldn't be any compatibility issues. you may need to go into sound and audio devices in control panel and manually set your default recording and playback devices to your headset though. i've had okay lukc with logitech but Plantronics are better. And shure does make a pretty good USB condenser mic as does m audio.

fHello and thanks for the advice, I am wondering if there is a way I can manually have my computer detect hardware?
